Notes How do you, teachers, deal with rumors in the lounge or gossip in general?I feel like everywhere I turn there is negativity. I know it’s not all of the staff, for I have found some pretty solid individuals; however, I cannot figure out the best approach to avoiding the gossip and rumors. If you have any ideas, please share. I feel guilty listening to it and not saying anything because, in my head, that’s still participating…thoughts?

As far as avoiding the gossipers in the teachers lounge… I avoid it by literally staying away from the teachers lounge!...

Be like oil in water. Though oil may be surrounded by water, it remains itself, untouched by the wetness (negativity) that surrounds it.

I hear this all the time, too! I usually try to listen respectively, and then I stick in a positive comment to point out the bright side.

Im just an intern this year, but my mentor teacher avoids spending plan/lunch/free time in the lounge. she says thats where the neg energy is

I eat in the classroom with my mentor teacher. I’ve never even stepped foot in the lounge for this very reason.

1. Avoid the teachers’ lounge at all costs. It is a cesspool of negativity. 2. Don’t repeat without verification. 3. ???? 4. Profit.

My advisor told me to NEVER, under any circumstances, go to the teachers’ lounge. That advice has saved me so much trouble.

The simplest solution is not to go to the lounge at all. Even if you’re not involved, your presence indicates tacit agreement w/ what’s there
